The mistakes companies make most often when implementing ERP, with practical ways to avoid each one.

  • Starting without written requirements. Agree on the processes and reports you need before configuration begins, in one requirements document.
  • Moving data as it is. Old data carries duplicates and errors; review and clean it before import.
  • Customising everything. Start with the standard system and customise only where your work truly differs.
  • No project owner. Name one person on your side with the authority to decide and approve.
  • Skipping training. A system nobody uses properly gives no return; train users and supervisors before going live.
  • Going live without a trial. Run a trial period on real cases, then switch.

None of these is technical. Implementations succeed when the company treats them as a change in how it works, not as a software installation.
